Raw Foods Detox - PART 2

I survived my raw foods detox, yay! Alli helped me out with a raw food hook-up...nori rolls, crackers, truffles, etc. I couldn't have done it without her help. I also learned a few new recipes and I learned a lot about mind over matter.

Unfortunately, I woke up Sunday morning with strep throat. Yeah, everyone I saw from Thursday to Sunday has been exposed. I feel awful about that and I hope no one catches it too. I'm usually good about washing hands, so hopefully I haven't spread it.

I continued my raw foods until Sunday night, and finally went in to urgent care yesterday afternoon because my throat was abnormally nasty and painful. Not to mention an ear ache.

For the past 24 hours I have been extremely grumpy, tired, and unwilling to fulfill my responsibilities. Adam took John to school, I kept Ella home from school, and I've neglected every meeting/appointment I had today. I'm still in my pj's and I just watched the Today show which had a feature about "detox diets" and OPRAH. WHAT?!?! Do NOT tell me that woman has stolen my detox idea. Actually, I can't claim it to be my idea, but I don't want people thinking I decided to clean my system out because of her.

Anyway, I'm continuing some of the eating habits Alli taught me. I hope to be cheerful and balanced soon.

Shout out to Becky

Here's a shout out to my dear friend Becky Orton. She's in the Dartmouth PICU with her darling son, Ben. Here's a link to Ben's blog http://benjaminorton.blogspot.com/. We'll be praying for them and watching their posts.
Here's a little something for them...

Raw Foods Detox - PART 1

After talking with my dad, my visiting teacher, hearing about Devin trying to go raw, and looking at raw recipes online, I decided to go for a 3 day raw foods detox this weekend. I've had a lot of migraines, stress, and anxiety over the past few months (building up). Church callings, school, kids, etc...is keeping me incredibly busy. Not to mention a bad cold coming on. SO, I'll be pumping myself full of these healthy foods, doing yoga, Epsom salt baths, rest, and lots of spiritually uplifting prayer/scripture study. I'm hoping to replenish myself with this approach. Greg and Alli first introduced the family to raw foods a long time ago. I won't be doing it for the long haul, as I've gained 7 pounds so far! But hopefully I'll have a decently clean liver after this is said and done. I've done raw before, but not via blog world.
For dinner last night I made...
Veggie lettuce wraps, Zucchini chips on the dehydrator, and Alli's famous raw freezer chocolate...I'll also be drinking my distilled water.

Peter Piper picked a peck of Pickled Anya's

All the Barry girls got together for lunch and memories. Unfortunately, I was grumpy because John couldn't eat any of the food. Feeling sorry for myself, I decided to take a few ugly pictures.

Allison participated in the grumpiness for my sake. Allison looks cute because she's faking being grumpy. I look ugly because I really AM grumpy. I WAS PICKLED. Look at my neck!!!

Cute Barry girls. I didn't get enough photos though. Treslee organized the day and Scottee came cheerful too. We went back to Gogo's for talking about life.

Ella and John were able to snag a few dollars from Gogo and Grandpa and have some fun, though. That cheered me up!

B was ready to go shoe shopping. Was she pickled too?

David's Birthday

Here's my fabulous brother. It's his birthday this weekend so we just HAD to celebrate with everyone.

We loved going to Vogue for David's birthday. Good times and great food!

St. Patty's

I make corned beef and cabbage every spring...taking the tradition from my mom's side. I'm not Irish, but THIS is a tradition that will continue.

A Very Barry Friday

We have these random last-minute parties every once in a while. Friday, Devin and Allison sacrifice their night for the Very Barry Party Cause.
Al grabbed our camera apparently and took a few pictures without us knowing....Are you hiding in the kitchen?! Hilarious!!!!!!

Ella LOVED holding Sam. Of course, every time she sees him she pretends to be a baby for the next 48 hours.

Anniversary Update

We had a fantastic anniversary day yesterday! First we brought the kids to Gogo's for an all-day adventure (they picked oranges and watched show, Ella ate and ate). Thanks Gogo!

We drove off to In-n-Out for burger and fries...I scarfed it down.

Weird smiles.

Then we spent the afternoon at the Mesa Temple, reflecting and counting our blessings.
Here, 8 years ago, our life together started. We survived the "7 year itch" and we are pressing forward with a bright future ahead. Together, as we entered the House of God, we were able to reconnect and remember what life together means... Hard work, self-sacrifice, enduring to the end, forgiveness, repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. We'll keep taking it one day at a time, on our knees in prayer together, reading scriptures on the couch every morning, and laughing at the kids!

Midterms

I'm in the middle of midterms.
This is how we survive. John endures school, Adam's hard at work
Ella dances and watches "Musical"

Mona sleeps.

I yawn.
